Memorial Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, January 17, 2009, at United Methodist Church in Motley, MN. Friends are invited to gather for one hour prior to Services at the Church on Saturday. Born on September 25, 1921, in Lyon County, MN, he was the 6th of 9 children born to Raymond and Edna (Barton) Allen. He attended Lyon County school through the 8th grade and continued his education at Marshall High School. In 1940 he went to Glendale, CA, to work for Lockheed Aircraft. On January 1, 1942, he married Leota LeeHalstead in Glendale. Don and Lee were blessed with five children, Ronald, Myron, Janice, Gary and Kathryn. Don entered the US navy in 1942 serving aboard the cruiser, USS Santa Fe, during World War II. On 19 March 1945, he received the "Ribbon Bar of the Navy Unit Commendation" for exceptionally meritorious service while serving aboard the USS Santa Fe in support of military operations. Don worked for Bladhom Concrete Company of Marshall and Osseo, MN for thirty-four years. Don and Lee enjoyed their many winters in Arizona with all their snowbird friends. They loved hiking, picnicking, and playing cards. Don also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and helping on the farm in Philbrook. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Edna; a daughter, Kathryn; son-in-law, Verne Smith; 3 brothers; and 2 sisters. Don will be lovingly missed by his wife of 67 years, Lee; children, Ronald (Sharon) Allen of Alexandria, MN, Myron (Freda) Allen of Waco, TX, Janice (Dave) Bartle of Motley, MN, and Gary (Pam) Allen of Philbrook, MN; 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 2 brothers; 1 sister: and many nieces, nephews, and relatives.
