Allan ?Red? Knutson, age 66, of Crosslake, died Friday, October 8, 2004 at Abbott -Northwestern Medical Center in Minneapolis. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, October 16, 11 a.m., at Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Crosslake, with Reverend Dennis Hoffman officiating. Friends may visit at the church during the hour prior to Mass. Interment will be at Pinewood Cemetery in Crosslake with military honors provided by the Crosslake American Legion Post # 500. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Crosslake.
Allan LeRoy Knutson was born April 25, 1938 in Halstad, to Rudolph and Margaret (Lusso) Knutson. He moved with his family to Hendrum, where he attended school. He enlisted in the Air Force at age 17, and served four years as an aircraft maintenance mechanic. Following his honorable discharge he moved to Minneapolis, and did precision sheet metal work. He was united in marriage to Betty Amundson in Anoka on December 2, 1967. Red and Betty were best friends and constant companions. They began vacationing in Crosslake in 1974, and moved there full-time in 1983. In Crosslake, Red owned and operated A and B Metalcraft until retiring in 2000. In years past, Red and Betty worked tirelessly to establish youth baseball in Crosslake so their grandchildren could play ball during their summer visits. They were active members of the Ideal Snow Pros and the Whitefish Snowgoers snowmobile clubs. Following retirement they traveled in their motor home, spending the winter months camping off the beaten paths between Arizona and Florida.
Red is survived by Betty, his wife of 36 years; children Gregory Lian, of Crosslake, Rickie (Peggy) Lian, of Anoka, and Linda (Tom) Evavold, of Andover; grandchildren Rickie Lian, Jr, of Anoka, Ryan Lian, of St. Francis, Spencer Lian, of Pequot Lakes, Molly Evavold, of Andover, and Joey Evavold, of Andover; siblings Elvera Hogan, of Coon Rapids, Robena Johnson, of Hendrum, Anna MacTikkanen, of Brooklyn Park, Bruce Knutson, of Moorhead, Roger Knutson, of Crosslake, and Helen Morris, of Casselton, ND; and many nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death.
