Alice Nyberg, age 78, of Brainerd passed away Thursday, January 11, 2018 at St. Cloud Hospital. Alice’s memorial service will be Thursday, January 18, at 11 am, at First Presbyterian Church in Brainerd. Friends may visit on Wednesday, January 17, from 5-7 pm at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, and from 10-11 at the church on Thursday. Private burial will be at Riverside Union Cemetery at a later date.
Alice Olene Anderson was born October 17, 1939 in Brainerd, to Byron and Johanna (Zander) Anderson. She grew up and attended school in Brainerd, graduating from Washington High School as an honor student at the age of 16. She attended beauty college in St. Cloud and was a beautician. She was also a musician, playing saxophone in a dance band. Alice was married to Donald Nyberg on June 3, 1961, at First Presbyterian church in Brainerd. Sadly, she was widowed after enjoying 41 years of marriage, when Don passed away in January of 2002. She began working at Erickson’s Greenhouse during the 1970s, a job that she loved and continued until just last year. Her deep, lifelong love of nurturing plants and flowers, particularly roses, was reflected both at her work and in her own gardens at home.
Alice will be remembered and missed by her daughter, Jennifer (Giorgio Poscia) Nyberg, Rome, Italy; her son, Jonathan J. Nyberg, Brainerd; a granddaughter, Serena Poscia, Rome, Italy; her sister, Yvonne Pickernell, Boulder, Colorado; in-laws, Marie and Jerome Hammond, St. Paul, and Dewey and Glenda Nyberg, Chisago City; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her very special friend, Ken Spangler and his family; She was preceded in death by her parents, Byron and Johanna Anderson; her husband, Donald Nyberg (January 30, 2002); two sisters, Marian McKenzie and Shirley Harrah; and a brother, Samuel Anderson.
