Alfred Simons, 93, of Pillager, MN went home to be with his Lord and Savior and was reunited with the love of his life Saturday, April 28, 2018 surrounded by his family at Lakewood Health System Hospital in Staples, MN. Funeral services for Alfred will be 11:00AM, Friday, May 4, 2018 at Casino Assembly of God Church, rural Pillager, MN, with Pastor Dan Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7PM, Thursday, May 3rd at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Wildwood Cemetery in Pillager, MN.
Alfred was born August 20, 1924 in Pillager, MN to Harry and Maude (Whipple) Simons. He grew up and was educated in the Pillager area, leaving school in the 8th grade. Alfred served in WWII in the anti-aircraft artillery division from May 1943 to January 1945. After being Honorably discharged, he married Iona Miller on October 31, 1946 in Brainerd, MN. They made their home in Pillager, where they raised their seven children. Alfred worked for several years in the sheet metal trade and then went to work for the Northern Pacific Railroad as a Watchman, from September 11, 1955 to April 16, 1984, when he retired. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, making his famous horseradish, and spending time with his family and friends.
Alfred is survived by his six children; Larry Simons of Garrison, Linda (Donnie) Johnson of Pillager, Nancy (Lloyd) Hansen of Brainerd, Patty (Dan) Mannie of Brainerd, Keith Simons of Pillager, and Tracey (Darrel) Thomas of Motley; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Maude Simons; his wife, Onie; daughter, Kristi Buscho; grandson, Kyle Thomas and great grandson, James Martin. Services have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN.
