Alfred "Fred" Dickey, age 89, of Backus, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2016, at the St. Cloud VA. He was born to Charles and Elizabeth Dickey on July 3, 1926, in Minneapolis. Fred served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart and Silver Star. He owned and operated Bloomington Printing in Bloomington, MN. Fred was an avid member of the VFW, DAV, the McComas-Lunde Chapter 194 Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Backus American Legion. He had his own plane and loved flying as well as music, snowmobiling and hunting.
Fred is survived by his wife, Carol; children: Kathy Arndt, Michael Dickey (Ruth), Linda Bell (Robert); stepdaughter, Diane Linkert (Gregory); sister-in-law, Veronna Dickey; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; nieces, nephews, cousins and many many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Charles; brothers, Robert and Theodore; sister, Doris Liberty; brother-in-law, Don Liberty; and son-in-law, Robert Arndt.
Services will be 1 PM on Saturday, February 27, at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Friday, March 18 at 11 AM. Friends and family may gather at Assembly Area 3 at 10:45 AM.
