Alfred Bragstad

November 25, 1921 — March 10, 2010

Alfred Melvin Bragstad, 88, of Pequot Lakes, passed away March 10, 2010, at Bethany Good Samaritan Home in Brainerd.

Al was born November 25, 1921 in Pequot Lakes, to Albert and Anna (Kirketeig) Bragstad. He was the third of four children and grew up working on the farm with his sisters and brother, graduating from Pequot Lakes High School in 1940.
In 1942, during WWII, Al enlisted in the Navy. He achieved the rank of Chief Machinist Mate while serving in the Pacific on the aircraft carrier USS Nassau. After the war, Al worked in Greenland and Guam as a mason. During his career, Al worked on many commercial buildings throughout the extended area and served as foreman on many projects. He took great pride in his work. On December 19th 1959 he married Audrey Everhart and they resided in Pequot Lakes. Besides being a mason Al and Audrey owned Bragstad Variety Grocery Store and Locker Plant in Pequot Lakes. Al loved to fish and hunt and especially enjoyed working on his lawn and garden with his tractors.

Al was a member of the Pequot Lakes American Legion Post 49, where he was also a past commander, the Jenkins VFW, and the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey; children: Lance (Robyn) Bragstad, Leslie (MaryEllen) Everhart, Lonni (Chuck) Isackson, Lisa (Ward) Brooks, Laurie (Allen) Hall; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Nina Podany and Borghild Cumming, and brother, Clarence Bragstad.

Services will be 10:30 AM on Monday, March 29, at Crosslake Lutheran Church. Friends are welcome to gather one hour prior the service. Interment will be 2 PM, Monday, March 29, at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Camp Ripley.
