Albin ?Al? D. Kuschel, 67, Brainerd, passed away to be with the Lord on Friday, May 23 at St. Joseph?s Medical Center in Brainerd. Albin David Kuschel was born December 31, 1935 in Onamia, to Ervin and Helen ?Babe? (Scruggs) Kuschel. He grew up on Mille Lacs Lake in Garrison , where he worked at the family-owned businesses Kuschel?s Boat Harbor and Kuschel?s Wild Rice Company. He graduated from Onamia High School and attended Brainerd Junior College. He proudly served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Gertrude ?Gert? Wickham in Minneapolis on May 29, 1958. He worked in the coating department at Potlatch for 34 years, retiring in 1996. Following retirement he and Gert traveled all over the US in their motorhome. He also enjoyed golf, fishing, and hunting. The family spent many happy summers staying at Fritz?s Resort in Nisswa. Al was happy with what he had, and his family meant everything to him. He was optomistic, loving, and full of praise for those he cared about. He attended Faith Baptist Church in Brainerd.
Al Kuschel is survived by Gert, his wife of 44 years; two daughters Pamela (Jamie) Templeton of Maple Grove and Misty (Brian) Gross of St. Michael; a son ?Albie? (Jodi) Kuschel of East Gull Lake; two brothers Richard (Lindy) Kuschel of Houston, TX and Tom (Lori) Kuschel of Maple Grove; and six grandchildren. His parents and three brothers preceded Al in death.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 28, 1:00 PM, at Faith Baptist Church in Brainerd, with Reverend Jim Goodew officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, with Brainerd American Legion Post 255 providing military honors. Friends may visit at Brenny Funeral Chapel Tuesday, May 27, 5-8:00 PM and at the church one hour before the service on Wednesday. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
