Adella Ubl

December 14, 1940 — November 18, 2017

Adella “Della” Ubl passed away gently and peacefully at Northern Lakes Memory Care in Baxter on Saturday, November 18, 2017. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Della on Tuesday, November 21, at 1 pm, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd. Friends may visit Monday, November 20, from 4-7 pm, at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, with parish prayers at 6:30 pm. Visitation will continue at the church on Tuesday, during the hour prior to Mass. Interment will be in New Ulm.
Adella was born in New Ulm, the second child of Aloid and Elizabeth Jutz. She attended St. Mary’s grade school and Holy Trinity high school, where she became the driver of a carful of girls; this is where the plot thickens! There was another car with three young guys, looking for a carful of girls, and so Della met Rog with a big, “Hi!”. After a couple years of dating, marriage happened. So, it began: three years in the twin cities with weekends “up north” or with family. Della studied and became a bookkeeper. Tired of the big city life, the couple moved to New Ulm for four years, where they bought their first house and Della got her first dog, a beagle named Missy.
Then came a chance to move “up north”. After living in a trailer court for a year, Roger and Della built their first house, with Della doing the insulation. So, when you say Della “warms your heart”, she really did! Fishing became an important part of life, with Della winning second place in the annual fall Northern tournament on Gull Lake; big trophy! Forty years of family were spent with the Baxter Bass Club. Della could back a boat trailer very well; when a guy was having trouble backing his trailer up, the call, “Get Della!” went out.
After retirement attending daily Mass and serving as an extraordinary Eucharistic minister became important to Della, usually followed by a session of coffee and world-problem-solving. Della loved the wonderful neighborhood card club she had participated in for the past ten years. Della and Roger just plain loved being together. Della began to experience health troubles, resulting in several hospital stays and, ultimately, her move to Northern Lakes Memory Care, six months ago. Sadly, her constant wish, “I want to go home!” wasn’t able to be realized, but today Della is home with Jesus.
Adella is survived by Roger, her beloved husband of 57 years; her mother, Elizabeth; her sister, Marilyn Reinarts; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Aloid.
