Emily Kunz

Emily Elizabeth (Mitchell) Kunz, 92, passed away peacefully June 30, 2019 at Northern Lakes Senior Living in Baxter, MN.  Emily was born to Cyril and Edith (Batchellor) Mitchell on November 18, 1926 in Madelia MN.  She graduated from Madelia High School in 1944 and entered the Army Cadet Nursing Corp program attending St. Olaf College, Northfield MN and Northwestern School of Nursing in Minneapolis.  Upon her graduation she worked at Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis and then Madelia Community Hospital.  She held many positions there eventually receiving her degree in Hospital Administration and becoming the Madelia Community Hospital Administrator.  Emily always credited the hospital board, the medical staff and the community for supporting her and allowing her the privilege of keeping MCH a current and profitable entity during constantly changing times.  Emily proved to be a very talented business woman and was extremely proud of serving the community as a nurse and administrator for 37 years.

Emily had two children with her husband Glen Settem.  They divorced and in 1957 she married Claire Kunz and had another child.  Emily was an active member of the community, loved to play Bridge and held memberships at both the Legion and VFW in Madelia.  Her outstanding ability to care for others extended to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Emily is survived by her three children, Craig (Mary) Settem, Jan Mitchell, and Mary (Mark) Anderson; grandchildren, Gregory Grunig, Jennifer Mitchell, Jeffrey and Steven Settem, Collin and Krister Anderson and seven great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Winston Mitchell, husband Claire Kunz, and husband Glen Settem.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, July 24, 2019 from 11 A.M-1 P.M. at the Madelia Golf Course in Madelia, MN.  The family requests no memorials.
